A well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly closed its doors after operating for 46 years, leaving its loyal patrons in shock. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire along the A6, has officially ceased operations. The establishment, consisting of a 65-room hotel adjacent to the canal on St Michael’s Road, has terminated all staff members.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its service. Spanning nearly 14 acres, the site encompassed various amenities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking lots.
The Lancashire Post reported that the closure announcement on the note read: “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision, made after much consideration, was a challenging one. We extend heartfelt gratitude to our customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering loyalty and support over the years. As the hamlet undergoes a transition phase, our primary focus is on concluding this chapter.”
Upset customers took to social media to express their dismay at the news. One individual reminisced, “Where my hubby proposed to me in 2012.” Another shared, “I also got engaged here in 2015. Such a shame.” A third customer lamented, “Been a regular at Guys for years and even proposed to my partner in the restaurant, receiving applause from fellow diners. It’s saddening that it’s closed, and hopefully, someone will preserve its legacy.”
Operated by the Wilkinson family since 1980, the business was put up for sale last year, indicating a net turnover of around £4.2 million. The property, named Guys Thatched Hamlet & Hotel, boasts a strategic location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, with easy access to major motorways and attractions. The hotel features 65 en suite rooms and attracts a mix of leisure and commercial clientele, making it a popular spot in the North West of England.
