A traveler in Rome has given a strong caution to other vacationers heading to the Italian capital after facing a terrifying incident during her trip. Caroline Jansson took to TikTok to share that she was “deprived of all her personal possessions” and advised fellow visitors to stay vigilant in the city.
After speaking with the police, she disclosed that thieves specifically target tourists, emphasizing the need for extra caution, especially for those with rental cars. Numerous cases of luggage theft directly from rented vehicles were reported at the police station.
Caroline recounted encounters of a woman having her handbag stolen while taking a picture and a man losing his wallet and passport from his hand. She stressed the importance of vigilance and watching out for each other’s belongings to prevent such incidents.
Due to the theft, Caroline lost valuable items, including an iPad and two laptops in Rome. Fortunately, she managed to locate one of the stolen laptops, a MacBook, inside a bag left in a ditch, albeit without the rest of her belongings.
She expressed her intention to cooperate with the authorities and requested her followers to be on the lookout for her missing luggage in Rome. Other tourists also shared their theft experiences in the city, highlighting the importance of staying cautious and safeguarding personal belongings.
In line with safety advice, the UK government suggests that thefts from parked cars are common in various areas of Rome and advises against leaving luggage unattended in vehicles, even in the trunk. Travelers are cautioned about potential distractions and scams used by thieves to target tourists and encourage preventive measures to reduce personal risks.
