As the holiday season approaches, many of us are tempted to purchase a tin of chocolates to share with loved ones or enjoy on our own. However, be prepared for higher prices this year.
In the past, a tin of festive chocolates would typically cost around five pounds. Recently, during a visit to my local supermarket, I was shocked to find that both 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes were priced at £16.50.
Although there is a discount available for Nectar cardholders, bringing the price down to £10, it is still a significant increase compared to previous years.
Fortunately, there are more affordable alternatives at Sainsbury’s for chocolate lovers. For instance, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street can be purchased for £13 or £8.50 with a Nectar card.
Other options include tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street priced at just £6 for 500-550g.
For those seeking better deals, Tesco is offering the same 500-550g Celebrations and Quality Street tubs for only £3.95 with a Clubcard, and £4.50 without the card.
Moreover, the £16.50/£10 tub of Heroes at Sainsbury’s can be purchased for just £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, and £15 without the card.
Recent findings have highlighted the most budget-friendly supermarkets for Christmas chocolate tubs. Asda is currently selling standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations for under £5, while Morrisons offers them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).
In addition, Tesco provides Celebrations and Quality Street tubs for £3.95 with a Clubcard, and Roses and Heroes for £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl are also selling tubs for less than £5.
While Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites, they offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates priced between approximately £4 and £10.
