A woman, aged 42, was found in a critical condition after reportedly being confined to her room for 27 years by her parents. Identified as Mirrella, she was last seen in public in 1998 at the age of 15 in the city of Świętochłowice, Poland. The discovery was made after police responded to a disturbance reported by neighbors in July. Mirrella, who had never received dental or hair care, was found to be on the brink of death due to an infection. Local residents have initiated a fundraising campaign to support her medical treatment.
The situation mirrors a recent case where a six-year-old girl was rescued after being confined to a room her entire life. The child, neglected and isolated, was rescued by police following a tip-off. She was found in a dark and filthy room with minimal care, having been fed a liquid-only diet and never taught basic skills like speech. Diagnosed with various health issues, including severe malnutrition, the girl lacked basic vaccinations and was in a state of neglect in her family’s home in Sorocaba, Brazil.
