Russian Official Threatens UK: Targets 23 Defense Sites

A high-ranking Russian official has raised concerns about a potential escalation to World War Three by issuing new threats towards the United Kingdom. Dmitry Rogozin, a senator and former deputy premier and space agency chief, has indicated plans to target several British defense-related facilities, identifying over 20 potential locations for attacks across the UK.

In a recent warning from Russia, Rogozin shared a map pinpointing 23 defense sites, including military and industrial installations spread across all four nations of the UK. The information was sourced from the UK government’s document titled ‘Defence Industrial Strategy 2025: Making Defence an Engine for Growth’.

This alarming development follows remarks by former UK defense secretary Ben Wallace, who suggested actions to make Crimea inhospitable from the Russian perspective. Additionally, propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, known for Kremlin-scripted TV broadcasts, hinted at potential destruction of British targets highlighted by Rogozin.

Although the likelihood of Russia carrying out such threats remains low, the recent warnings have understandably raised concerns among the British public about the implications of a nuclear strike and the possible measures for survival. CEO of Kromek Group plc, Dr. Arnab Basu, advised on steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack, emphasizing the importance of seeking shelter, sealing windows and doors, and storing water for potential contamination.

Regarding safe locations during a nuclear blast, The International Commission on Radiological Protection recommends seeking shelter in the central areas of buildings or basements. While traditional views may suggest London’s underground network offers protection, experts caution that modern nuclear weapons could pose greater risks, making being outside the blast zone crucial for survival.

Considering the potential impact of nuclear blasts, various factors like radiation radius, fireball radius, air blast radius, and thermal radiation radius must be taken into account. Property researchers have identified certain areas that could offer relative safety in such scenarios, with remote locations like Foula in the Shetland Isles emerging as potentially secure havens.
