“Trump Slams NFL’s Kickoff Rule, Calls Bad Bunny Choice ‘Ridiculous'”

President Donald Trump seized an opportunity during a discussion about Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime performance to voice his disapproval of the NFL’s recent kickoff rule change. Bad Bunny, a prominent Puerto Rican artist known for his vocal criticism of Trump and his policies, is slated to headline the halftime show next February.

Trump, a long-time football enthusiast, criticized the NFL’s kickoff rule alteration, which was implemented to address safety concerns and enhance the excitement of kick returns. The previous rule often led to touchbacks, reducing player action but increasing the risk of high-speed collisions during returns. In 2024, the league introduced the Dynamic Kickoff, aiming to bring coverage and return teams closer together, limit pre-snap motion, and adjust touchback placement to the 35-yard line.

Expressing immediate opposition, Trump labeled the new kickoff rule as “s—- football,” emphasizing his dissatisfaction with the change. He also questioned the decision-making process behind selecting Bad Bunny for the halftime show, stating that he was unaware of the artist and finding the choice “absolutely ridiculous.”

Despite his strong opinions on the kickoff rule, Trump’s attendance at Bad Bunny’s halftime show remains uncertain. Since his return to the White House for a second term, Trump has been a noticeable presence at various high-profile sporting events, including Super Bowl LX, Daytona 500, UFC matches, NCAA championships, FIFA Club World Cup Final, U.S. Open, and the Ryder Cup.
