Incredible images capture the demolition of a section of the White House to make room for Donald Trump’s extravagant ballroom, estimated at $250 million (£185 million). The US President assured that the new ballroom, intended for state dinners and formal events, would not disrupt the existing structure. However, a significant portion of the East Wing was dismantled as part of the undertaking.
Witnesses observed heavy machinery dismantling the historic section of the White House that has stood for over a century. Sounds of demolition echoed as construction equipment removed pieces of the walls.
Footage of the demolition, posted on Twitter last night, showcased Mr. Trump defending the project. He emphasized that the East Wing was undergoing modernization independently from the main White House building and would be enhanced aesthetically upon completion.
Despite earlier assurances of modernization rather than demolition, the East Wing appears to be nearly entirely removed to make way for Mr. Trump’s envisioned 25,000 square feet ballroom. The President pledged that any alterations would respect the existing structure.
While some alterations to the White House have been criticized as excessive, including decorative elements like golden cherubs and large paintings of Mr. Trump, the new ballroom is expected to be privately funded, with contributions from tech giants like Apple and Google, as well as defense and telecom companies.
Originally constructed in 1902 during President Theodore Roosevelt’s term, the East Wing has undergone several expansions and modifications over the years. President Trump confirmed plans for complete demolition during a recent visit to the construction site.
During the commencement of construction, the East Room was shielded from noise with closed gold curtains as the President acknowledged the project while hosting guests at the White House.
