“UK Conservative Party’s Deportation Plan Draws Trump Comparisons”

The Conservative Party faced heavy criticism for their proposal to deport 150,000 individuals annually in a move reminiscent of Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Party leader Kemi Badenoch presented the plan at the Tory Party conference in Manchester, garnering skepticism due to its lack of specifics and dismissive responses to questions about deportation logistics.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the Tory initiative, labeling it as lacking credibility and pointing out the party’s historical neglect of immigration reform during their previous tenure in government. Mahmood highlighted a decrease in removals of foreign offenders under the Conservative Party compared to an increase under the current Labour government.

Additionally, Mahmood criticized the Tories’ intention to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), emphasizing the significant role of the ECHR in international agreements, including the UK’s agreements for returning individuals to their home countries.

In response to backlash, Badenoch defended the deportation proposal, aiming to expel foreigners without permission to stay, supported by a new Removals Force inspired by US ICE raids. She stated that individuals should return to their home countries or safe third countries, dismissing queries about deportation destinations and emphasizing the need to prioritize the well-being of UK residents.

Badenoch expressed confidence in the plan, suggesting that President Trump would approve of it while emphasizing its appeal to the British populace. The proposal remains contentious, with critics questioning its feasibility and ethical implications.
