Twitter, also known as X, encountered disruptions on Wednesday afternoon as users reported issues on the social media platform. The outage was swiftly resolved within an hour, as confirmed by the outage monitoring service DownDetector.
Reports of problems started surfacing around 10:30 a.m. EST from various locations worldwide, with users flagging issues with the popular social media site. By 11:15 a.m. EST, reports were escalating, particularly in the U.S., Europe, and parts of Asia, regarding X outages.
According to DownDetector data at 11:45 a.m. EST, 46% of users encountered problems with the X app, while 29% reported timeline/feed issues, and 15% reported website-related challenges.
Notably, around 11 a.m. ET, there were nearly 27,000 reported problems with X, which surged to over 34,800 reports by 11:30 a.m. EST. However, X was back up and running for some users before noon.
NetBlocks, a cybersecurity and internet governance monitoring organization, indicated that X faced international outages, clarifying that the incident was not linked to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.
Despite the outage, X has not issued a public statement, leaving the exact cause of the disruption unresolved. Users encountered various issues such as difficulties accessing timelines, logging in, and loading posts.
Some users experienced post-loading problems, while others shared error messages indicating “posts aren’t loading right now: try again.” Prior to the resolution, users sought answers on Bluesky regarding the X issues.
Questions like “Is X down for anyone or just me?” and “X down again?” circulated among users during the disruption, reflecting a pattern of core feature disturbances reported in recent months, including posting, feed refreshing, and profile viewing issues.
This recent outage follows similar incidents, with thousands of X users reporting disruptions back in mid-January. Approximately a year ago, over 1.6 million users faced outages on the platform, as reported by DownDetector at that time.
In a parallel scenario, CloudFlare’s technical malfunction in November impacted several social platforms, including X, Spotify, and ChatGPT, resulting in temporary outages.
