A horse racing trainer in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after verbally attacking a racing official during an inspection. Garry Lunn, a successful trainer with over 500 wins, including 100 at the Dubbo racecourse, faced consequences for his behavior towards steward Xavier Dalton.
During a stable audit inspection by RacingNSW officials, discrepancies in stable return records were discovered at Lunn’s yard. When Dalton returned for a follow-up inspection the next month, Lunn became aggressive and hurled insults at him, questioning his competence and using offensive language.
Despite being warned by Dalton and asked to stop, Lunn continued his tirade even as Dalton tried to leave the premises. Lunn confronted Dalton at his car, further engaging in abusive behavior and language, obstructing Dalton from carrying out his duties as a steward.
Lunn denied the charges but was ultimately found guilty. As a result, he received a three-month disqualification for obstructing Dalton and a nine-month disqualification for his improper and insulting behavior. Both disqualifications will run concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
