Irish sprinter She’s Quality has tragically passed away in a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained during a race at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, well-known for her success under trainer Jack Davison from Dunboyne, Co Meath, had achieved notable performances in Group races throughout 2025, accumulating over £250,000 in earnings.
She entered the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint as a competitive contender but encountered a quick end to her race when she fell behind early in the field of 13 runners. Jockey Colin Keane promptly halted her run on the backstretch as she struggled to keep pace with the leaders.
Medical assistance was promptly provided as veterinarians attended to the injured filly after she was dismounted and surrounded by protective screens. Breeders’ Cup veterinarian Dr. Scott Hay noted the jockey’s cautious approach in easing up on She’s Quality and expressed initial concerns about her right hind lameness, prompting her transport to a hospital for further evaluation.
Sadly, within 24 hours, trainer Davison shared the devastating news of She’s Quality’s passing due to the severe pelvic fracture suffered during the race. Despite receiving immediate care at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital following the incident, her condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the humane decision to euthanize her.
Acknowledging the loss, Davison expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the talented filly, emphasizing the team’s bond and the tremendous journey they had shared. The Breeders’ Cup also extended condolences, recognizing the impact of She’s Quality’s loss on the equine community and offering sympathies to her connections.
