Mitchell Lawrie, a talented young darts player from Scotland, made history by becoming the youngest player to secure three senior men’s titles, surpassing the previous record set by Luke Littler. Lawrie’s remarkable achievement came at the WDF Irish Classic held in Killarney, just four days after his 15th birthday.
In a thrilling final match, Lawrie outplayed Ronan McDonagh with an impressive performance, hitting four 180s and maintaining an average score of 98.60 to secure a 5-1 victory. Prior to this, Lawrie also claimed the Irish Classic Youths title by defeating Kaya Basal with a score of 4-1 and an average of 90.95.
Lawrie’s family, including his father Fraser and grandfather Dougie, were present at the INEC Arena in Kerry, Ireland, to witness his triumph and offer their support.
Notably, Lawrie broke Littler’s record by achieving this feat at the age of 15 years and some months, five months earlier than the previous record holder. Lawrie is set to participate in the upcoming men’s and youth WDF world championships at Lakeside later this month.
Meanwhile, the reigning PDC World Champion is gearing up to defend his title at Alexandra Palace. Lawrie, who previously won the British Open and Welsh Open this year, is preparing for a potential face-off with his predecessor.
Although Lawrie will not be eligible to compete against Littler in PDC competitions until he turns 16, his family is fully supportive of his journey. In an interview with The Sun, Dougie emphasized that they do not aim for Lawrie to emulate Littler but rather to be his unique self.
Dougie mentioned that he introduced Lawrie to darts, teaching him from a young age and instilling in him a competitive spirit that has contributed to his success as a skilled player.
