Fleetwood claimed just over £750,000, while McIlroy shared £752,000 with Nicolai Højgaard for the third and fourth positions. Despite starting the final round six shots behind the leader Rai, McIlroy’s impressive round of 62 brought him back into contention, although he ultimately fell short.
In a tense finish, McIlroy finished at 24 under, with Fleetwood and Rai sinking crucial putts on the 17th to head into the final tied at 25 under. The tournament proceeded to a play-off after Rai narrowly missed a birdie opportunity to seal the win.
In the play-off, both players had birdie putts, with Rai eventually clinching the top prize after Fleetwood missed his chance. Rai expressed his emotions post-victory, emphasizing his focus and gratitude towards his fellow competitor, Fleetwood.
Reflecting on his performance, Rai mentioned overcoming challenges during the round and credited his caddie for providing crucial support and guidance. The Race to Dubai will culminate with the DP World Tour Championship, commencing on November 13.
