“Newborn Found Abandoned at NYC Train Station”

A recently born baby girl, still connected by the umbilical cord, was discovered abandoned at a busy New York City train station. The infant, wrapped in a blanket, was found near a staircase leading to a train platform at Penn Station on a Monday morning. Following an anonymous tip reporting the abandonment, emergency services promptly arrived and transported the baby to a nearby hospital.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) stated that the baby was alert and conscious upon discovery and was in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing, according to reports from US media outlets.

According to the New York Post, the NYPD is reviewing surveillance footage to identify the individual who left the baby at the subway station. However, no details about the person responsible for abandoning the infant have been disclosed.

New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow described the incident as the ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ referring to the rescue of the unattended baby at the 34th Street station by the fire department and police.

Under the Abandoned Infant Protection Act of New York State, a parent can safely abandon a newborn baby up to 20 days old without facing prosecution, as long as the child is left at a secure location like a hospital, staffed police station, or fire station.

In a similar incident last month, a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a cardboard box beside a road in Tuguegarao City, Philippines. Social worker May Asuncion reported that the baby was stable and would be monitored at the hospital for up to five days to ensure her well-being.

Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the swift response of local citizens and authorities, emphasizing the value of every life and the dedication to finding the individual responsible for abandoning the child.

A police representative expressed gratitude for the quick intervention that saved the baby’s life and urged anyone with relevant information to step forward to ensure justice and proper care for the child.
