Model Found Bound and Gagged in Fridge, Suspect Faces Murder Charges

A man is facing charges for the murder of a pregnant model who was discovered bound and gagged in her refrigerator. The accused, Magnus Humphrey, 43, and the victim, Maleesa Mooney, 31, had a brief romantic involvement for five days before her tragic death in September 2023. According to testimony from the victim’s friend, Kiersten Dossett, Humphrey exhibited obsessive behavior towards Maleesa, frequently referring to her as “his girl” and expressing intentions of marriage.

During the short period they spent together, witnesses testified that the model and Humphrey were inseparable, with the accused making comments about a future together. Tragically, Maleesa was found deceased in her refrigerator, two months pregnant at the time. Reports from the Los Angeles Times indicated that her body was bound with cords and fabric from a dress, with evidence suggesting signs of physical abuse including removal of hair and bruising.

The cause of death was determined to be homicide, likely due to asphyxiation, as stated by medical examiner Brice Hunt. Deputy District Attorney Antonella Nistorescu characterized the murder as a calculated and premeditated act of violence during a court hearing, hinting at a possible motive related to a financial dispute. Despite denying any involvement in the killing, Humphrey’s defense argued that evidence linking him to the crime scene and sexual activity with the victim did not prove his guilt.

After reviewing the evidence, a judge decided there was sufficient cause for Humphrey to stand trial for the torture and murder of Maleesa. While the accused could face the death penalty, the district attorney’s office has yet to determine whether capital punishment will be sought.
