New images reveal the deceased Manchester synagogue attack suspect lying on the ground with a blade and a suspected “bomb” nearby. The violent incident, now categorized as a terrorist act, transpired at the Crumpsall synagogue in north Manchester earlier today, coinciding with Yom Kippur, the most sacred day for the Jewish community. Law enforcement swiftly responded to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue around 9:30 am, resulting in the suspect being fatally shot shortly after a fatal stabbing.
Photographs taken post-attack depict the attacker’s lifeless body, with a bomb disposal specialist inspecting a suspected explosive device wrapped around the suspect’s waist. Additionally, a knife and other items believed to be attached to the suspect were observed nearby, with a bomb disposal robot positioned next to the deceased assailant.
Authorities from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that two individuals lost their lives in the assault before the suspect was neutralized. Four others sustained severe injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital. The injuries sustained were a result of both vehicular and knife-related incidents. GMP Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson confirmed that the deceased individuals were members of the Manchester Jewish community.
Watson commended the quick actions of security personnel, worshippers, and the police, preventing the attacker from entering the synagogue. He expressed gratitude to the public for promptly reporting the unfolding events, enabling a rapid police response. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer denounced the attack as shocking and announced the deployment of additional police resources to safeguard synagogues nationwide.
In a statement, GMP emphasized the significance of Yom Kippur as a day of worship and safety for the Jewish community. They praised the public for their vigilance in alerting the authorities, which facilitated a swift and courageous response from law enforcement, ultimately halting the heinous attack.
