Courtrooms are typically serious and formal settings where significant legal proceedings unfold. Cases involving crimes and life-altering decisions demand respectful behavior from all present. However, emotions and anxiety can sometimes lead to disruptions, as seen in a bizarre incident where a man defecated and flung his feces at a judge during a 2019 court session in Miami.
The accused, Dorleans Philidor, was facing burglary charges in a Miami court when the shocking incident occurred. Just before closing arguments, Philidor attempted to throw feces at Dade Circuit Judge Lisa Walsh. Witnesses reported that he shouted, “It’s protein! It’s good for you!” Thankfully, the judge managed to avoid being hit by the waste as chaos ensued in the courtroom.
Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the disturbance, evacuating the courtroom and securing the area. Despite the disruption, the trial resumed in a different location after the courtroom was cleaned. Surprisingly, Philidor was ultimately found not guilty of the initial crime but still faced charges for another offense.
This was not the first time Philidor’s behavior had caused delays in the trial. The day before the feces incident, he had smeared feces over himself and his holding cell, prompting a mental health evaluation. Despite this, the trial proceeded the following day. Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation officials assured additional security measures would be in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
