Heathrow Airport is set to increase its drop-off charge for the “kiss and fly” service by 16% starting in January. The current £6 fee will rise to £7, and a 10-minute time limit will be enforced, with a penalty of £80 for exceeding the limit.
According to a spokesperson for the airport, this adjustment aligns Heathrow’s Terminal drop-off charge with other major UK airports, aiming to reduce congestion, promote the use of public transport, and optimize the forecourt space. Free drop-off and pick-up options are still available at all terminals in the Park & Ride car parks.
Travel expert Guy Hobbs from consumer group Which? expressed concerns about the increased price and strict time limit, suggesting alternative long stay car parks for free drop-offs at major UK airports. Heathrow noted that 95% of passengers already complete their drop-offs within the allocated 10 minutes to enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion.
The airport stated that the drop-off fee contributes to investments in bus, rail, and sustainable transportation initiatives, encouraging passengers to choose environmentally friendly travel options. Heathrow’s website highlights the convenience of the drop-off areas outside each terminal, allowing drivers to pay for single or multiple drop-offs online or by phone before midnight the following day.
Recent data revealed a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025 at Heathrow, driven by long-haul flights and premium services, with profits reaching £1.5 billion. Unlike some UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area is solely for drop-offs, while passenger pick-ups are accommodated in the car parks with a minimal charge for 30 minutes.
The rise in drop-off charges at Heathrow follows a trend among UK airports, as highlighted by a report by the RAC showing increased fees for drop-offs at more than half of the busiest airports. Despite the additional costs and penalties for non-payment, many European airports offer free drop-off services, according to the RAC’s findings.
