Severe weather has struck yet another popular destination for British holidaymakers, resulting in a woman being swept away in flash floods. Sicily, Italy, is currently experiencing torrential rain and flash flooding, leading to roadways being transformed into waterways by the heavy downpour. Videos depict cars floating down village streets, trapping residents in Agrigento Town and the San Leone hamlet within their homes.

Local reports indicate that a woman was carried away by the floodwaters after leaving her vehicle stuck in the adverse weather conditions. Despite ongoing search efforts by firefighters, the woman remains missing. Italy has witnessed a series of severe floods in recent days, prompting numerous rescues, including hundreds of schoolchildren, a mother, a 10-month-old baby stranded on a car roof, and over 200 firefighters tackling emergency incidents in Lombardy.

In Milan, the Seveso River overflowed, posing risks to nearby schools, while the Lambro River’s water levels soared, necessitating the rapid deployment of flood defenses. Tragically, a German tourist lost their life in Spigno Monferrato due to flash floods, causing significant damage to homes and businesses. Other popular tourist destinations have also been impacted by unseasonable weather.

In Ibiza, rainwater seeped through the roof of the airport, prompting a red weather alert for incoming travelers to the Balearic island. Social media shared footage of heavy rainfall cascading onto luggage carousels within the airport, causing widespread travel disruptions. Meanwhile, Spanish weather authorities issued warnings for Ibiza and Formentera due to the risk of flooding from torrential rains.

The extreme weather conditions were attributed to Storm Gabrielle sweeping across the Atlantic, affecting various regions in Spain. Valencia witnessed streets turning into rivers, and Zaragoza experienced lightning strikes, adding to the weather-related chaos. Drivers found themselves stranded in rising floodwaters, while in Greece, holidaymakers were forced to sleep on the airport floor amid travel disruptions caused by hazardous weather conditions.

At Zakynthos Airport in Greece, travelers, including Amber Tate and Bethany Griffiths, faced distressing situations as they grappled with flight delays and cancellations due to flash floods and heavy rain. Passengers described chaotic scenes at the airport, where lack of information and uncertainty prevailed, leading to frustration and anxiety among those awaiting updates on their travel plans. The disruptive weather left many stranded and uncertain about their return home, impacting their confidence in future travel.
