“Darts Pro Matt Clark’s Near-Death Scare”

Darts professional Matt Clark has shared a harrowing experience where he was advised to ‘rest or die’ after being hospitalized with a life-threatening blood clot. The 57-year-old player, known as ‘Superman,’ had to step away from the World Seniors Tour due to the severity of his condition, which prompted a significant lifestyle change to ensure his well-being.

Clark, who held a PDC Tour Card for several years, achieved his best performance in the 2006 World Championships, reaching the last 32 before being stopped by Phil Taylor. Following the loss of his Tour Card, he transitioned to the WDF circuit.

In a candid discussion about his health scare, Clark revealed, “I faced a critical situation midway through the seniors tour when I developed a life-threatening blood clot in a delicate area.” He emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Doctors warned me that any movement could be fatal.”

Reflecting on the impact on his career, Clark mentioned, “I had to undergo hospital treatment during the TV events I qualified for on the seniors tour.” Despite facing health challenges, he remained resilient, only returning to competitive play after being discharged in February of this year.

Despite ongoing health issues, including back problems, Clark has made a remarkable comeback to the WDF World Championship as the No. 7 seed. He is set to compete against Belgium’s Francois Schweyen in the upcoming matches.

Clark’s career highlights include winning the 1999 Canadian Open and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2008 World Matchplay. Despite a defeat in the past, he remains focused on his comeback in the championship.

Fans eager to catch the action can tune in to the PDC World Darts Championship starting on December 11, with all matches broadcasted live exclusively on Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
