“Badenoch Refuses to Condemn Jenrick’s Lack of White Faces Remark”

Kemi Badenoch has chosen not to criticize her leadership rival Robert Jenrick for his recent comment about not seeing many white individuals during a visit to Birmingham. This statement by Jenrick, revealed through a leaked recording obtained by The Guardian, was deemed a “factual statement” by Badenoch.

Jenrick, who faced accusations of racism following his observation made during a brief visit to Handsworth in Birmingham, defended his remark by suggesting it was taken out of context. He emphasized that while he may not have seen many white faces during his visit, the issue was about the lack of integration rather than race.

Badenoch expressed her disagreement with accusations of racism against Jenrick, labeling them as divisive and unwarranted. She criticized certain MPs in Birmingham for focusing on international issues like Gaza instead of local concerns.

The incident occurred during a dinner at the Aldridge-Brownhills Conservative Association, where Jenrick remarked on the lack of white individuals in Handsworth, expressing a desire for better integration among communities.

Critics, including the area’s independent MP Ayoub Khan, refuted Jenrick’s portrayal of Handsworth, attributing the conditions to years of austerity measures and neglect by successive governments rather than a failure of multiculturalism.

Georgie Laming from Hope Not Hate cautioned against making inflammatory remarks like Jenrick’s, stating that such comments could fuel far-right sentiments and hinder community cohesion.
