More than a fortnight into the search for missing nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard, authorities have revealed new information, indicating a troubling development.
The quest for Melodee commenced on October 14 following concerns raised by a school official about her prolonged absence. Upon visiting the family residence and engaging with Melodee’s mother, 35-year-old Ashlee Buzzard, law enforcement found the child missing, with no credible account provided for her whereabouts.
Recent surveillance footage released by the police depicts Melodee inside a car rental establishment in Santa Barbara on October 7, just a week before she was reported missing in Lompoc, approximately 55 miles away. The images show Melodee donning a grey sweatshirt with a hood and a wig that differed in color and style from her natural hair, potentially indicating an attempt to alter her appearance, as noted by investigators.
Reports indicate that Ashlee rented a white Chevrolet Malibu and, along with Melodee, embarked on a three-day journey from Lompoc to the Nebraska region, with a return trip that included Kansas. Authorities are now focused on tracing Melodee’s whereabouts during those three days and her current location.
Assisting in the investigation, the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office confirmed that Melodee may have been in the company of her mother as of October 7 and potentially traveled with her as far as Nebraska. Despite the rental car being no longer in Ashlee’s possession, she has been uncooperative and has refrained from disclosing any information regarding her daughter’s location.
Due to her young age and extended absence, Melodee is considered at-risk. Law enforcement officials, including Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown, are actively pursuing all leads and urge the public to come forward with any relevant information to aid in finding Melodee and ensuring her safe return.
