Tesco is set to distribute numerous free Christmas trees for just one day. These unique trees, often referred to as “wonky,” are typically not sold due to minor imperfections like uneven branch spacing or a slight lean.
The supermarket plans to offer these trees at no cost on Saturday, December 6, in selected stores, urging recipients to consider donating to Fareshare and Trussell, two food charities. The giveaway locations include Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra.
Starting at 10 am, individuals can claim one tree per household on a first-come, first-served basis. Comparable Christmas trees elsewhere typically start at £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized the value of embracing the imperfect charm of these trees, highlighting that imperfections can enhance the holiday spirit. A recent Tesco survey revealed that a significant portion of Brits prioritize the second weekend of December for decorating their Christmas trees.
The survey also found that a majority of respondents believe that Christmas does not have to be flawless to be special, with imperfect moments adding to the festive season’s ambiance. Conducted by Censuswide, the survey polled 2,000 UK adults between August 22 and 28 and December 1 and 2.
In another initiative, Tesco announced that Clubcard members can earn double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift card purchases at Tesco stores.
With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, Tesco rewards customers with points for various purchases, including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile, Tesco credit card transactions, and Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card usage. Customers can redeem Clubcard points for vouchers starting at 150 points, each valued at £1.50 for Tesco purchases.
