A woman has confessed to the killing of 10 dogs by using a poison she was testing, following accusations of murdering an elderly man with a toxic bean stew. Police chief Halisson Ideiao labeled Ana Paula Veloso as a “psychopath” and a “serial killer” for allegedly poisoning pensioner Neil Correa da Silva in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Authorities suspect Veloso collaborated with the victim’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva, who reportedly arranged for Veloso to travel from Guarulhos to Rio to assist in the assassination.
Both Veloso and Paiva da Silva are currently under police custody and are being linked to three additional murders. Halisson stated, “She admits to killing 10 dogs with the poison, testing the method and timing meticulously. She had precise knowledge of the dosage and effects on those who consumed what she offered.” The discovery of terbufos, a pesticide slightly less potent than lead, at Veloso’s residence further fueled the investigation.
The inquiry has expanded to involve authorities in Sao Paulo interviewing Veloso’s twin sister, Roberta, who allegedly played a role in Neil’s demise by providing support. Michele Paiva da Silva, the victim’s daughter, a 42-year-old law student, was apprehended outside Engenho Novo University in Rio. Neil, aged 65, passed away at Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, prompting the exhumation of his body for forensic analysis to determine if poisoning occurred.
Police reports suggest a strained relationship between the father and daughter, with both Ana and Michele present at the house when Neil fell ill before being taken to the hospital. Evidence of text messages exchanged between the two discussing the poisoning of Mr. Correa da Silva has been uncovered.
Additionally, law enforcement authorities are connecting the pensioner’s death to three other poisoning incidents in Guarulhos, believed to be orchestrated by Veloso and Paiva da Silva. Halisson alleged, “Ana Paula poisoned four individuals, including Neil, on Michelle’s orders.” He also disclosed that Veloso came under police scrutiny after claiming she was targeted in a cake poisoning attempt, which detectives suspect was a scheme to divert blame.
Halisson emphasized, “Ana Paula Veloso visited our precinct following an alleged incident involving a poisoned cake at a college. She planted the cake to implicate a third party. Through our investigation, we determined that Ana Paula was not a victim in this instance but rather a serial killer.”
