Lorenzo Musetti has had an intense week, but he achieved his goal of qualifying for the ATP Finals. Despite initially missing out due to an early exit in the Paris Masters, he secured his spot by reaching the final at the ATP 250 tournament in Athens.
Although Musetti lost to Novak Djokovic in the Athens final, Djokovic’s subsequent withdrawal allowed Musetti to take his place at the ATP Finals. Musetti swiftly headed to Turin for the tournament, where he is set to face Taylor Fritz.
Expressing his excitement on social media, Musetti shared that qualifying for the ATP Finals was a dream come true for him. Despite missing out on the Hellenic Championship title, he was thrilled to secure a spot in the prestigious year-end event.
Following Djokovic’s announcement on court, Musetti confirmed that he would be taking his place at the ATP Finals. He commended Djokovic’s decision to delay his withdrawal until the last moment, respecting his adherence to the tournament rules.
With Djokovic out, the ATP had to find a replacement alternate. Casper Ruud stepped in as the second alternate, joining Alexander Bublik in the lineup. Both players are set to receive appearance fees, with the potential to earn more if they are called upon to compete in a match.
