Tragic Hotel Fire and Fatality in Tenerife

A tragic fire engulfed a holiday hotel in Tenerife while a 23-year-old guest fell to his death from a third-floor balcony. The incident occurred at the four-star Melia Costa Atlantis Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz, with around 490 guests, including several British nationals, evacuated and gathered outside the hotel as firefighters swiftly responded to the scene.

The nationality of the deceased guest who fell from the balcony where the fire originated has not been disclosed, and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blaze, with initial reports suggesting a mattress in the room may have caught fire.

Local emergency services confirmed the hotel fatality and fire early the next morning. They stated that emergency calls reporting the fire came in just after 9 pm the previous night at a hotel on Venezuela Avenue in Puerto de la Cruz. Upon arrival, firefighters, ambulances, and police initiated the evacuation of the hotel. During the evacuation, it was reported that a 23-year-old guest had fallen from a balcony under circumstances that are under investigation.

The hotel has not issued any official statement on social media regarding the incident. Fortunately, the evacuated guests were unharmed and were able to return to their rooms shortly after the evacuation order was lifted.

This incident follows a similar tragedy earlier in the year when a British teenager died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Spain. The 19-year-old tourist passed away instantly in the fall at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel on July 14, located in the party resort of San Antonio, where another tourist, Evan Thomson, 26, tragically lost his life two weeks earlier.
