Woman Dies in Tragic Accident with Car Window

An autopsy has revealed the cause of death of a woman who tragically lost her life in an unusual incident involving her car’s electric window.

Bernadette Delmotte, aged 60, was discovered deceased in her red Fiat 500 in the small village of Bissy-sur-Fley in France on June 13. Initially, authorities were puzzled by the circumstances of her death, but it was later determined that she was fatally injured while trying to prevent her car from rolling away due to the handbrake being off.

Reports from the local area suggest that Bernadette leaned into the Fiat 500 window to access the handbrake and unintentionally activated the car’s automatic window control. As a result, the window ascended and tragically crushed her neck.

Following an autopsy, it was determined that she died from asphyxiation, with law enforcement ruling out any foul play. A close friend, Béatrice, disclosed to France 3 that the handbrake was not engaged, causing the car to move backward.

Bernadette’s family and friends became concerned when she failed to show up for a meal on the day of the incident. Initially fearing foul play, they later learned the shocking truth behind her death. Her brother François expressed his initial confusion and denial upon hearing the news.

François has reportedly reached out to Fiat to detail his sister’s demise, emphasizing that his aim is not to seek compensation but to raise awareness to prevent similar tragedies.

In a separate incident in 2021, a woman in Ukraine lost her life under similar circumstances involving a BMW car, where she got her neck trapped in the window. This tragic accident occurred while she was celebrating her 21st birthday and reaching out to her daughter through the car window, inadvertently triggering the automatic window button, resulting in a fatal injury.
