Kent County Council Plans 5% Council Tax Hike

Kent County Council, under the leadership of the Reform party, is planning to increase council tax by 5% next year due to existing services being at a minimal level. Despite earlier promises to review inefficient spending, the council faces growing demands and seeks additional funding.

The majority of councils raised council tax by 4.99% earlier this year, with some granted permission to exceed this limit by the government. Reform councillors acknowledge the challenges in cutting costs and express concerns about the financial constraints they face.

Reform’s leader in Kent views the council as a showcase for the party’s governance style. However, critics, including Labour MP Polly Billington, question the party’s ability to deliver on its promises, highlighting the importance of effective governance in managing public finances.
